When actor Rosario Dawson (perhaps best-known recently for playing Ahsoka Tano in the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka”) decided to create a charitable fund last year, she turned to fiscal sponsor-to-the-stars
Social Impact Fund (SIF) to help. Her new nonprofit, called Rio Dawn Foundation, aims to begin grantmaking in 2024/2025, supporting large national and international groups as well as smaller community-based groups with low overhead — “activists and changemakers” around the world, as the foundation’s executive director Pellagia Gambiza put it.

Social Impact Fund on Thursday.
The summit, focusing on “The Future of Hollywood Philanthropy” and presented by biopharmaceutical company Gilead, buzzed with hope and a sense of urgency as Hollywood leaders, philanthropic innovators and on-the-ground volunteers packed the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles. There was a defiant sense that the old ways were not working anymore — galas are out, giving circles are in.
“Our goal today is not only to inspire new ways of doing good but to also spark conversations around what works and what can be done better,”
Craig Cichy, executive director of the Social Impact Fund (winners of the 2023 THR award for Philanthropic Organization of the Year), noted in his opening remarks.
Sharon Stone, Charlize Theron, Wilson Cruz and Thomas Sadoski are among the stars who will discuss “The Future of Hollywood Philanthropy” at a special summit on July 11.
